Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission
(BROOKSVILLE, Florida, June 28, 2021) – Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Center Certification.
Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in May. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“Primary Stroke Center Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”
“We congratulate Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill for their outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”
“Our physicians and employees dedication throughout this process to achieving Primary Stroke Center Certification is representative of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, quality care with compassion to the communities we serve,” says Sharon Hayes, Chief Executive Officer, Bayfront Health Brooksville and Spring Hill.
Bayfront Health Brooksville and Bayfront Health Spring Hill pursued Primary Stroke Certification (PSC) to offer a higher level of quality stroke care, close to home. Achieving this certification requires a streamlined stroke process to ensure timely and effective care as defined by the Joint Commission’s Clinical Practice Guidelines. Staff education was a key objective and was accomplished through skills fairs to validate competency as well as the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification for safe delivery of tPA (clot-busting medication). The NIHSS is a systematic assessment tool that provides a quantitative measure of stroke-related neurologic deficit.
